Cairine Wilson is a certified Platinum Eco-School by Ontario Eco-Schools. Our school works hard to minimize waste and promote recycling. We have classes organize our recycling to the best of their abilities, so that a majority of the  materials can be re-used. In the past, we have had battery recycling drives, which students could exchange old batteries for cookies and candy. We hope to keep working on making a bigger impact on the environment.

We Mrs Robins 1st period civics class and we been working with Day of Information for a Lifetime of Action (DILA) to address and take action on environmental problems. During our time working with DILA we focused on the Pacific Garbage Patch and came up with ways to impact younger generations and to reduce the amount of garbage our school and community creates. Our class came up with 3 ways to raise awareness and try to reduce apart of our schools waste.

  • 1st we organized a liter less lunch in our school that included a Kahoot, a rap about environment and cookies.

  • 2nd a group of students created a sculpture out of water bottles they collected from the schools recycling and made a model of Texas to raise awareness of the size of the Pacific Garbage Patch; which is twice the size of Texas.

  • 3rd we decided to create a website with No-Waste-Recipes.

We hope you enjoy these recipes and please send us any no-waste recipes if you have any!
